Steering Column Repair: 1986 Suburban Steering Column compatibility, steering wheel lock, size blazer

Question
Hi,

I have a 1986 Suburban 3/4 ton with the tilt column/cruise control, etc...

Someone took a hammer and screwdriver to it, and banged it up pretty good.

There are just broken pieces everywhere.

I got a new lock cylinder installed, but it just spins when i put the key in.  They broke the plastic gear-looking thing behind the cylinder lock too.... also, the horn doesn't work anymore, the steering wheel lock is broke...so, I am just going to look for a new column to install.

My question is what years/models would interchange?

Did the full size blazer columns interchange with the suburban?  What were the cut-off years that they interchanged?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi William:

You can replace it with a used column if you can find one.

For used parts...Try this site.  You may be able to find what you need.

It's the website all the salvage yards use when they say "Hang on--let me see if my other yard has it".  Actually it's an online database of all the salvage yards in America.  You can search by part, location or price

If you have no luck there, our company can always rebuild yours.
