MG Car Repair: 1979 MGB, low beams, wiring loom

Question
Hello.  I have a 1979 MGB and the turn signals don't work.  I was wondering if the turn signals were in line with the hazard switch?  Because the Hazard switch doesn't work and is out of the car.  Also I have no low beams only the high beams work.  What is the first thing I should check?

Answer
Hi Alan.  Yes, the hazard switch is wired into the turn signals, so if you remove the hazard switch the turn signals cannot work.

The loss of both low beams is most likely a loose or corroded bullet connector.  Lift the hood and follow the main wiring loom that goes along the right hand side of the car.  It goes through the radiator support bracket and continues underneath the front slam panel.  Just past the horn you will see a bunch of black bullet connectors.  You may need to remove the radiator fan guard to reach them.

Look for an oblong connector with 3 wires going into it.  The wires will all be blue with a red stripe.  My guess is that one of the bullets has either come out or else the connector block has corroded internally.  Pull all 3 wires out and push them all back in again.  This usually cleans them up and gets them working again.
