MG Car Repair: MGB Fuel Sending Unit, fuel sending unit, middle portion

1964 MGB installed new fuel tank and sending unit.  Last 3 new sending units have leaked.  Some around seal, one through the middle portion.  Any thoughts how to install a new unit without it leaking.  Different gasket?  Other installation tips?

Hi Jim,
I had many sending unites out over the years and I didn't have any leak but most were back when the cars were still new. I did not try to use any sealer on the gasket. but it is important to clean the surface very well. The early type was secured with screws and the later style had a lock ring that rotated to lock the sending unit in place. If you have the early style that was held in with screws, I would tighten the screws a second time after a few weeks.
