MG Car Repair: 1969 MGB GT Ignitiom System, mgb gt, coil wire

Question
Just finished major overhaul on engine. Also replaced coil, condenser, points, rotor button, cap and all wiring inside distributor.I have 12 volts going into coil and .22 volt coming out of coil to distributer. I have checked continuity and have .22 volt at distributor but no voltage or spark at points. I also checked ground system on engine. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Allen,
If the points are closed at the time you measured .22v then you have either a bad ground of the points plate or a dirty set of points.
If the points were open at the time you measured .22v then you have installed the points wrong or you have a short in the wire to the distributor.

To test the system turn the engine until the points are open and remove the coil wire from the distributor and check to see that you have 12v at the wire. If so scratch the end of the wire on the connector on the distributor. If you get a spark you need to see what was installed wrong in the distributor.

The points ground the coil and when the points open, they open the circuit allowing the coil to discharge a spark.
