MG Car Repair: elec. 1973 MG Migit, tracer wire, wire connector

Question
QUESTION: I am in the process of putting this car back together and have the wire harness 90% back in and before putting the dash back I wanted to check if the car would start, but I turn on the key and the fuel pump starts the ignition light comes on ,but no starter.

ANSWER: Hi Paul,
First you need to check to see if you have ignition at the plug wires since you are working with the harness. You also need a wiring diagram. I would not even think about doing that job without one. If you don't have one let me know and I will put one up on my web site for you to copy.

QUESTION: Hi Howard,
Maybe I explained wrong,if i try to start with the button on the solenoid itself the engine turns over, however when i turn the key nothing happens.Yes a wire diagram would be very helpful. I took photos and notes when I took it apart to repair a lot of stuff, but went into the hospital and this and that and now it is 2 years later and trying to put it back together, and memory not as good as it was. One book has a diagram in it but not much help.
Thanks,Paul

Answer
Hi Paul,
If you have the car up to # "GHN5-138800" and a button on the solenoid to start the car with, then you only have one small wire connector with a white w/red tracer wire on it. All you need to do is to test the white w/red tracer wire for power with the key in the "start" position to see what is wrong. If you have power then the solenoid is bad, If you don't have power then either the ignition switch is bad or you have a disconnected wire between the switch and the solenoid.

The wiring diagram is at http://mg-tri-jag.net/73Midget11x1.jpg and the index to the diagram is at
