MG Car Repair: Carburetor, carburetors, tech tip

Question
In order to adjust the twin carburetors on my 1970 MGB to a LEANER setting, do I turn the head of the adjustment bolt clockwise or counter clockwise?   Thank you!

Answer
Hi Jim.
The adjustment is a nut not a bolt and turning it up (Clockwise as viewed from the bottom or counter clockwise as viewed from the top) leans out the mixture. However, you must not adjust more than 2 or 3 flats of the nut before checking to see if it is lean or rich. (THE LIFTING OF THE PIN IS THE WAY TO DETERMINE IF IT IS LEAN OR RICH)
You need to read my tech tip on adjusting SU carburetors.
