MG Car Repair: fuel pump issue, self priming, float chamber

Question
ok, i did check the white wire and it is hot, checked the ground,it is ok, had the pump running for a few seconds then it quit, i took out the pump, the points were really corroded, cleaned them put it back and tried to run it on while not connected to fuel and did not run, also tried with fuel lines attached still nothing, so i am getting a new fuel pump today, so my question is after i install it, will it be self priming? and , with no lines attached and powered up will it make the clicking sound? again, thanks for the great information!

Answer
It will run with no lines attached and run fast. (If it is the SU type pump) It will also self prime when you connect the lines. It will run fast then run slower when it picks up fuel and it will slow to just about a stop when the float chamber is full.
