MG Car Repair: Clunking noise when changing gear, spring shackles, axle nuts

Question
I have a 1970m MG and there is a Clunking noise when changing gears coming from the rear end of the car until I reach top gear, I assume that this is something to do with the back axle or as it is commonly called the back div.

Answer
Hi Billy,
If it is a wire wheel car you need to first try to tighten the spinners and if that does not help you need to check for a bad "U" joint in the driveshaft and check the axle nuts, also any loose play in the differential and any loose spring shackles or even the shock mounts.
A "Clunk" in the rear of the car can be any one of a hundred things.
