MG Car Repair: MGB stops running like it is out of gas, electrical gremlins, sticky goo

Question
I have a '75 MG that I have a love hate relationship with. I have had it since I was 16 years old, and I am now 42. On occasion, none in particular, it will run fine then die out as though it is out of gas.  Tank is full.  Fuel filter changed. When ignition is turned, fuel pump clicks, but gas only trickles out of the hose where the fuel filter connects and sometimes stops completely.  Car was sitting and not run for approximately 8 years prior but has been emptyied of fluids and refilled and new fuel pump placed in it (underneath not in the trunk). Sometimes runs just fine, it is not predictable. Also the fuel gauge and turn signals are not currently working (I know it is goofy and sometimes other things are connected to something seemingly completely unrelated!)

Answer
I presume you have a 75 MGB to USA specification.  The electrical gremlins in the fuel gauge and turn signals would point towards an electrical problem, possibly the ignition relay.  I have dealt with 3 of these in the past month (see previous answers).  However, the slow fuel delivery points to something more fuel-related.  Therefore I have two totally different suggestions for you:

1) From the back of the ignition switch, follow the cable for about 10 inches.  It should terminate in a bunch of black plastic-coated connectors.  One of them will have 4 white wires going into it.  Pull all 4 wires and check inside the connector for rust or corrosion.  They are cheap, so if in doubt, replace the connector block and clean all the bullets.  Under the bonnet (hood) you will find another bunch of connectors between the fuse box and the heater box.  Look for the one with 3 white wires going into it.  Same treatment.

2) Remove the sender unit from the side of the fuel tank.  (Do not do this with a full tank).  On the end of the tube inside the tank there will be a nylon gauze filter.  My guess is it will be clogged with a sticky goo.
