MG Car Repair: 1975 midget lights, flasher relay, ring terminal

Question
Hello Barrie

I too have a non california, left side steering wheel  '75 midget with an
electrical problem........the lights.
when i hit the light switch, the headlights, taillights, side running lights all
work.

the fuses seem to be intact
the front signalling lamps also turn on.
however, the reverse lights do not work, the brake lights do not work and the
turn signal do not work. The interior green directional flash does not work.

i replaced what i believe to be the flasher relay, but it made no difference.

Answer
Hi Wayne.  I think you will find that you have an earthing fault at the rear of the car.  Check out the black wires attached to the rear lights.  They all join together at a ring terminal, bolted to something like the boot lid catch.  Probably rusty and just needs cleaning up.
