MG Car Repair: Clutch and Rear brakes, shoe brakes, rear brakes

Question
I have a 75 midget and want to bleed and adjust the clutch please explain how. I also would like to know how to adjust the rear shoe brakes. Thank you in advance. JIM

Answer
Hi James,
There is no adjustment on the clutch. To bleed the clutch you need to pump up the pedal in slow long pumps and hold the pedal down and have someone open the bleeder valve on the slave cylinder and let some of the fluid out and close the bleeder valve and repeat the process several times making sure you do not allow the fluid reservoir to get too low.

To adjust the rear brakes jack the rear of the car up and tighten the adjuster screw on the backing plate until it locks up the wheel, then loosen the adjuster until the wheel turns free by hand but you can just hear a little dragging of the shoes on the brake drum.

If you intend to keep this car you need a service manual.
