MG Car Repair: 1978 MG Midget not starting, voltage drop test, starter solenoid

Question
My midget won't show any signs of life except the clock working.  It has a fairly new battery which started my other car no problem, but won't even operate the lights, never mind turn the engine over on the mg.  Another, working battery has been tried and that did nothing either. The terminals are securly attached and the car was running before this problem. I tried putting a screwdriver over the solenoid, but there was no response either.  Have you any idea what the problem could be, please?

Answer
Hi Dan,
You obviously have a major disconnect somewhere in the system so you need to do a voltage drop test of all of the positive cables from the battery to the starter solenoid and all of the ground cables from the engine to body and from the body to the ground post on the battery.
You need a volt meter to do voltage drop tests. If you are not familiar with the procedure let me know and I will try to go over it for you.
