MG Car Repair: 45 DCOE carb linkage, lhd cars, accelerator cable

Question
I have a 45DCOE Weber carb on my 1978 MGB.Whenever I push down on the accelerator pedal it "binds" sometimes. I think that the accelerator cable is binding against the valve cover.  What can I do to make the cable "make the curve" easier.
  Thank You

Answer
Hi Jim.  Sounds like a sticky throttle cable to me.  Is this a new installation, or is it well-used?  These cables do wear out internally.  There is an inner Teflon liner that the cable cuts into, and it eventually cuts through and sticks.  Also, especially on LHD cars, the throttle cable is too short.  I would fit a longer cable with a more gentle curve.  The bigger the curve, the less likely it is to stick.  I have modified bicycle brake cables in the past.
