MG Car Repair: 76 mg carb, fuel mixture, throttle plate

Question
I have just rebuilt my carb, starts fine at idle but will not accelerate,if i raise the piston by hand it will rev up and down.I have checked diaphram, throttle cable.any suggestions

Answer
Hi Charles,
When you raise the piston you do not do anything except change the fuel mixture. If you raise the piston and the RPM raises and stays fast it means the mixture is too rich. The throttle plate is the only thing that should raise RPM.
If it ran before you rebuilt the carburetor then you for sure did something wrong and will need to start from scratch. Why did you rebuild the carburetor to start with?
