MG Car Repair: starter motor keeps going, push button switch, push button starter switch

Question
I have a triumph tr3a recently the starter motor would not disengage unless I used the battery kill switch.I have checked the push button starter switch and that is OK, now when I reconnect the kill switch the starter engages and cranks the engine even with out the ignition keys. Can you help?regards Serge

Answer
Hi Serge,
If the push button switch is ok as you say then the starter solenoid is bad or wired wrong. Disconnect the white w/red tracer wire from the solenoid and see if it still is trying to start the engine. If it still does the solenoid is bad. Or you have the small brown wire connected to the wrong terminal on the solenoid.
