MG Car Repair: 1977 Midget, coat hanger, stiff wire

Question
I am working on this car and all the wires have been taken off and the distributor has no marks on it so I don't know where no.1 is for the plug wire any help is appreciated

Answer
Hi Dale,
Remove all of the spark plugs and put the car in 4th gear with the hand brake off and role the car forward as you put your thumb over #1 plug hole. As soon as you feel compression forcing your thumb off of the hole put a piece of stiff wire (like a coat hanger) and slowly move the car further forward as you feel the top of the piston. Soon you will arrive at top dead center (TDC). Then remove the distributor cap and note which of the four pins in the cap that the rotor is pointed to. That is #1. Then place the other wires in order in a counter clockwise order. 1,3,4,2.
