MG Car Repair: 76 MGB, radiator shops, radiator shop

Question
Hey Howard,
First of  all I would like to thank you for help in the past. Your advice has been rigth on.

My '76 MGB has not been moved in over ten years. I am ready to run some fuel through it. However, I am unable to get fuel to the pump. My electric pump is in the trunk. I replaced the line from the side of the tank to the pump.

Apparently the standpipe in the tank is plugged. I can take the rubber line off and blow air into the line and get nothing but back flow.

Neither my manual or parts catalog shows what is inside the tank. Is there a screen at the end of the pipe? What are my fix options? The tube going into the tank appears to be braized into the tank.

Thanks,
Joe

Answer
Hi Joe,
You need to remove the gas cap and use compressed air to blow into the line. If 125 to 150 PSI don't clear the line you will probably need to take the tank off and take it to a radiator shop to have it repaired. Call around to radiator shops to find one that also does fuel tanks.
