MG Car Repair: idling, stromberg, mgb

Question
I have an 1976 MGB. The car runs well after it is warm, however it will not idle until it is warm.  The car will stall out.  What do you suggest to correct this problem.  Thank you for your time and sharing your knowledge.

Answer
Hi Matt.  Sounds like a carburation problem.  When you pull the choke out partially, does this speed the tickover?  It should do.  There are 2 screws on the carb, one for tickover and a second one that only does anything when you pull the choke out.  On each SU carb, there is a small mark on a cam that lines up with the place where the second adjuster should hit the cam.

In the USA you may have a single Stromberg.  They are similar but different.
Here is an exploded diagram of the MGB Stromberg.

The fast idle lever is part #34.

If this information doesn't help, get back to me, but I need to know what carb or carbs you have got.
