Answer
David, that may get the engine started but that is NOT going to solve all of the problems that will come from NOT connecting up other hoses.
All you have to do is connect the fuel hose and start the engine and check any lower ports on the carb for vacuum at idle and vacuum at just above idle. When you locate that port that has NO vacuum at idle and DOES have vacuum at just above idle, connect it to the vacuum advance on the distributor. Then look on the air filter to see if there is a large hose connection on the bottom of the air filter. If there is, connect the hose from the valve cover to it.
If you have an EGR valve you can connect direct manifold vacuum to it and if you still have an anti run-on valve at the bottom of the charcoal canister it too can take direct manifold vacuum. The only other hose connection that may be on the carb is a float chamber vent port which will be a mounted up high on the side of the carb or on the side of the top cover of the carb. That should go to the charcoal canister along with a vent from the gas tank.
