MG Car Repair: coil, air gap, electric ignition

Question
QUESTION: Howard,
i recently got an old 1975 mg midget. i have replaced the coil, condencer, spark plugs, spark plug wires, and distributor cap. after all that im still not getting a spark. the battery is running sort of low so i have to turn the engine using the solenoid, battery post, and jumpercables. also i have the wire running to the distributor from the coil on the negitive side of the coil and then there are 2 white and green wires twisted together and hooked on the positive post of the coil. WHAT AM I MISSING!?!?!?!?!
         thanks, jullion

ANSWER: Jullion, the 75 Midget with the 1500 Spitfire engine had electronic ignition so what condenser did you have? Are you talking about some radio suppressor? It does not matter, If you have power to the coil and the air gap in the distributor is ok (I think it was .012" to .015") then that is all you can do. When an electric ignition fails not even the man who designed it can fix it. One of the draw backs of electronic ignition over Kettering ignition.

QUESTION: the distributor i have is from a 74 spitfire though. it has points.

Answer
Turn the engine by hand until the points are open and check the gap. Should be .015", then turn the key on and check for power on both sides of the coil. Both should have 12 volts +. Turn the engine until the points are closed and recheck the coil. The (+) side should show lower than 12v and the (-) side of the coil should have no voltage.
If it is not like that let me know what it is.
