MG Car Repair: 1979 mg midget carb problem, combustion chambers, stop screw

Question
The carb was recently rebuilt , runs good down the road, but does not hold idol,, any ideas

Answer
Hi Jimmy,
An engine that does not idle well can have hundreds of possible problems. When I get a car brought in to me with that complaint I have to start from scratch.

Compression test first to confirm that the combustion chambers are ok. Then I have to set the ignition timing and last I look at fuel. Float level first then look at the diaphragm to confirm it is ok, then adjust fuel mixture and idle stop screw for idle speed. If when doing that I find any faults, I correct them as I go. When I covered those items I have run across hundreds of different problems that needed correcting.
Good luck,
Howard
