MG Car Repair: MGB 1979 fuel pump orientation, banjo fittings, high pressure hose

Question
I replaced a tired fuel pump with a new SU after-market type.  I have replaced
the rubber feeder hoses 2 times and 3 times on the intake and output inlets
in the past 5 weeks.  It's always a crack around the end of the inlet (I have
switched to high pressure hose, and replaced one of those last night). The
inlets appear to have no burring (I'm using the originals) but I'm wondering if
I oriented the pump correctly - I have the unions (banjo bolts) facing down to
the road.  Is this correct, to your recollection?  My vehicle has been lowered
by a previous owner and I wonder if the axle pinches the lines over rough
road patches.
Thanks as always!
Lance

Answer
Hi Lance,
I would look at the travel of the rear end because even the lowest quality hose you could find wouldn't crack in that amount of time.
It does not matter which way you point the banjo fittings if the lines are not close to the rear end in it's full travel.
