MG Car Repair: turn signal problem, brake light switch, jumper wire

Question
I have a 1979 MG Midget with turn signals that are slow to respond. When they do begin to blink, as soon as I press on the brake pedal, the blinkers stop blinking.

Answer
Hi Megan,
I would first check the ground on the tail light assembly. Then if that is not the problem you need to trace the circuit with a test light while you either have someone hold down the brake pedal or put a jumper wire across the brake light switch while testing the turn signal circuit. If you don't have a diagram let me know and I will put one up on my web site so you can copy it.
