Question
QUESTION: When we put car in gear it seems to grind.  Is there an adjustment or what should I do???  Thank-you for your help
Larry

ANSWER: Hi Larry,
First confirm that the idle is below 1000 RPM and second depress the clutch pedal all the way to the floor and hold it there for 10 seconds and then try to put it in gear. If it still don't want to go in hold the pedal to the floor and put it in second gear first and then shift it to first to see if it goes in.
The pedal should not have more than about an inch free play and you should feel firm resistance just as the free play is taken up and feel firm resistance all the way to the floor. If not, you may still have some air in the system.

QUESTION: Hi Howard, Idling speed is okay, held clutch down for the ten seconds and attempted to put into first, it ground but went into first.  Tried putting into second after that but ground going into second also. Does the hydraulic clutch bleed like the brake system ?? By holding down clutch pedal and loosening bleeder to let fluid out.  Also what type fluid should be used??? appreciate your help,  Larry

Answer
Hi Larry,
Yes you can bleed like a brake system. Be sure you do not have any more than about a inch free play in the clutch pedal and as soon as the free play is taken up the pedal should feel firm and feel firm all the way to the floor. Be sure you don't have any extra carpet under the pedal as the Spitfire and the TR-6 needed all of the pedal travel to disengage the clutch.
I always recommend DOT 4 fluid.
