MG Car Repair: Problem Getting Metal Cup Out Of Slave Cylinder, clutch master cylinder, propane torch

Question
Hi - I rebuilt clutch master cylinder, and want to rebuild slave cylinder. The metal cup that pushes the rod on the slave cylinder is totally stuck inside the slave cylinder housing, I CAN NOT get it out! I hate to totally pry it out of there and destroy it, as I have not seen that cup as a replacement part anywhere, unless someone else has seen it as part of a kit? So I guess my question is 2-part: How can I get that metal cup out of the slave cylinder housing without trashing it? And part 2, if not, does anyone know where I can get a replacement? I checked Moss, didn't see it. I tried blowing 110PSI air thru line connection fitting opening, nothing. Thanks!!

Answer
Hi Ben,
I have had many stuck and the best way I have found is to put a little WD-40 in the line hole and in the open cylinder end and let it set over night. Then drive the piston all the way into the bore and take a brake hone and clean the bore that is exposed. Then apply the air pressure. (if you have 110 PSI you can reset the regulator up a little to 125 PSI and use a piece of hard rubber to seal around your air gun and close the bleeder valve and try then to blow it out. If the piston moves a little that is a good sign because you can drive it in again and repeat that process. A last resort is to heat the cylinder with a propane torch. Be careful what you aim it at. Very few over the years that I couldn't get out that way. I did have one that was so corroded that I couldn't get it out and it was on a car that was not imported into the US and we could not find a dealer for it's parts so I drilled a hole in the center of the end of the cylinder and drove it out with a punch then I threaded the hole and put a short bolt in the hole and found a rubber cup seal from a German car that fit for a new seal.
