MG Car Repair: MGB ignition fault?, tracer wire, starter relay

Question
Hi there,
I have a '74 MGB GT that i haven't started for a few months so i expected to have to jump start it which i did and left it ticking over for twenty minutes. Problem is when i turn it off and try and restart it i get no sound from the ignition not even a ticking. Lights etc come on so it's not a battery problem (they're new anyway). Just seems like there's no 'click' on the ignition to fire it up. Any ideas? Thanks.

Answer
Hi Jonathan,
You need to test with a test light the circuits when it is in the failed mode.

First try plugging the seat belt in several times to see if it may be a bad connection in the seat belt relay. Then check the starter relay and try touching a powered wire to the white w/brown tracer wire on the relay to see if the solenoid will activate. If it works, then I would suspect either the seat belt / seat switch relay or one of the switches that allow it to operate.
Let me know,
Howard
