MG Car Repair: fuel and temp, temp gauge, fire wall

Question
I have a 74 MGB that seems to stall and won't start after it has been running for awhile (stop and go). I' assuming it is an overheating problem as it starts after it cools down.

I can't tell the temp as neither the fuel or temp gauge are working. Someone said that there is as resistor OR? something under the dash that controls both gauges. Would this be correct and whereabouts is it located. At least that way I would know if it is overheating.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Bob,
Those gauges are both powered by a voltage stabilizer mounted either on the back of the speedometer or on the fire wall just behind the Speedometer and tach. It is a small rectangle metal box with two connectors with two green wires on one terminal and a green w/light green tracer on the other.

If the car was overheating to the point it was cutting off you would see the radiator overflowing and steam coming out unless there is no coolant at all in it.
You need to test for spark when it cuts off an also note if you hear the fuel pump running when you turn the ignition off and back on after it dies.
