MG Car Repair: crankcase pressure, crankcase pressure, stromburg

Question
Hello Howard,
I replace the stromburg on my 1979 Midget with a weber down draft.  I now have excessive crankcase pressure,at idle if I pull the dipstick out it will shoot oil across the garage.  A friend told me I needed to drill and tap the intake manifild and install a fitting to hook up a pcv system from the tube on the valve cover to the intake. Someone else told me to just take a hose from the fitting on the valve cover and run it to the air filter housing.  Which is the best way or what would you recomend.

Thanks,
Doug

Answer
Hi Doug,
Either one will burn crankcase vapors, the air filter connection would be the easiest. However, unless you blocked off the case vent when you changed carb you should not have that much case pressure. You may have other problems. Do a "Dry" and a "Wet" compression test to check for ring blow by.
