MG Car Repair: 1979 MG Midget 1500, electric fuel pump, electric pumps

Question
I reciently purchased a '79 MG Midget 1500 with a Weber DGVA carb.  I repaired a vacccum leak on the intake manifold and I thought my problems were solved.  I took it out for a drive and after about 1/2 hour, in stop and go traffic, it began to miss and lean out excessively.  I noticed no fuel in the filter so I beleive it is a vapor locking prior to the mechanical pump.  Should I install an electric fuel pump to solve the problem?  Any ideas on the cause and the solution to my problem?

Answer
Some do install electric pumps in the rear near the tank. This puts a positive pressure on the fuel all the way to the carb which helps to eliminate vapor lock by raising the boiling point of the fuel. If you are sure it is a vapor lock problem and not a failing fuel pump, that would solve your problem. Keep in mind that you can't just add an electric pump in the rear without eliminating the mechanical pump because if you add a pump in the rear and keep the front pump you will double your fuel pressure which can over ride the float valve in the carb.
