Military Vehicle Repair: M1010, starter fluid, glow plug

Hi Van,

I have found a M1010,that I would like to buy the engine is low milage, and it has a rebuilt trans

my only concern is that it only starts with starter fluid sprayed in the breather... the owner put the glow plug card in and the plugs seem to stay on and not turn off... i don't know what to do is there a easy fix.. will it cost me a fortune if I buy it... please help me

The plugs may be burned out. Test them with an ohm meter.

Now....you could operate the glow plugs with a push button.
or, you could troubleshoot and repair the existing system.
or, you could abandon the glow plug system, and install an either start system.

If the glowplug relay under the hood is a black small square plastic gizmo, you need to get rid of it, and replace it with a Niehoff S55 relay.
The plastic one melts inside, and may be stuck closed.
Disconnect the large wires from it, and test for continuity between the large posts. There should not be continuity.
