Military Vehicle Repair: M1008 Glow plugs Voltage and glow sequence, glow plugs, ohm meter

Question
Hi, On my M1008, I was wondering could I remove the glow plug resistor bank and put 12V directly on my glow plugs?

What is the normal glow time when the engine is cold?

When the glow sequence is 3 sec on, 5 sec off and that repeated 3 times, what is the cause of that behavior?

Answer
Yes, remove the resistor, and connect to 12 volts.

I think about seven seconds, but don't quote me on that. Too long, and you will burn them up. Too short, and it will just not start, or will start, but run sluggish for a while, so start with shorter time, and experiment.

I don't know what that means, if anything. may have a shorted plug. Measure with an ohm meter. The readings between glowplugs may vary, but just so you have some resistance, without either open, or direct short, it should work. Measure them one at a time...in the engine.
