Military Vehicle Repair: window motors, chevy astro van, chevy astro

Question
I have a Chevy Astro van 1995 and the window motor for the passenger window has started to slow down and sometimes completely stop running.  I was wondering how and if I could repair it without having to spend the money to have someone do it for me?

Thank you,
Dawn

Answer
Hello Dawn,
That depends on just how much you feel comfortable with. But yes, a handy person can surely do it themselves.
First of all, though, it may just need a little lube, and cleaning or adjusting the track. Don't lube the track.
If the window glides freely, but the motor is slow, it could be loose wire connections, or a switch not making good contact.
If a replacement motor is needed, they can be bought from NAPA, and probably many other parts houses cheaper than OE. They should have instructions included.
Good Luck.
