Mitsubishi Repair: Various problems with 2001 Mitsubishi Galant, mitsubishi galant, cv boot

Question
1.  The emergency/hazard light activates or turns on without prompting and subsequently drains the battery.

2.  Service engine light stays on (recent oil changes, etc.)

3.  Car makes "clucking noises" when making left turn.  Could it be a CV joint going bad?

4.  The interior trunk release mechanism does not work anymore and a key now has to be used to open the trunk.

5.  Excessive overcarriage rattling.

Answer
Danny,

1. The hazard light switch is most likely faulty.  Have it replaced.

2. The service engine light can be checked for free from most major auto parts store (ex. AutoZone)

3. This is most likely a bad CV joint.  In most cases the entire axle will be replaced as the CV boot is probably ripped as well.

4. This can be caused by a stuck solenoid in the trunk latch.  It may need to be replaced or possible just lubricated.

5. A rattle can have an number causes.  A broke exhaust hanger, loose exhaust shield, loose spare tire, etc.  If you can pinpoint the general area, you'll most likely be able to it locate it.

Good luck!
