Mitsubishi Repair: Alternator, montero sport, excessive strain

Question
I have replaced the alternator 6 times in 3 months on my 1999 Montero Sport! What could be causing this to happen? I also replaced the battery just to make sure it was ok!

Answer
Angie,
This can be caused by an improper ground, a short in the charging system, a bad relay, or a worn alternator fuse.  Also be sure the belt is not overtightened, as that can put excessive strain on the bearings in the alternator which can cause it to fail.  Check those items and see if you can pin point the problem.
Good luck!
