Mitsubishi Repair: mitsibishi eclipse 2007, mitsibishi eclipse, soft aluminum

Question
I have a leak in ac have taken it to 3 different ac repairs no one can find.I put freon in blows cold for about 2 to 3 days any ides what to check for

Answer
Jim,
The most common place that freon leaks occur is on the condenser or receiver/dryer (typically they are connected to each other).  This is because those items are usually located in front of the radiator and low to the ground.  The connections can become loose and the rubber O-rings can fail; causing leaks.  Also, since they are the most exposed to the elements, surrounding brackets can rust and scrap into the soft aluminum of the condenser (happened to me), and cause a leak.  A leak in that area is also the most difficult to detect as the "sniffers" that most mechanics use either pick up false readings or no readings due the components locations.

Since the mechanics cannot pinpoint exactly where this leak is, you may want to just get a new condenser and dryer installed to start with if you really want this to work.  A new aftermarket one may run you around $150.  If that doesn't fix your problem, you can at least rule it out.
Good luck!
