Mitsubishi Repair: 93 mits 3000gt vr4 oil gauge or pump ??, oil filter housing, oil gauge

My oil gauge does it own thing 93 vr4,,,sometimes its working sometimes not,,,at initial start-up ok....after that it erratic,,, Sending unit,,pump ?? car does not over-heat,,,valves chatter sometimes when first cranked thats it...Runs strong,,good boost,but im scared I might be starving engine of oil,,,,besides taking valve cover off and watching it pump how can i check to see if oil pump is working..

If the pump was not working, you'd quickly know it from your temperature gauge.  The heat quickly increase, and your oil would burn; and you'd smell that.  This is probably a problem with the sending unit and/or pressure sensor. Both, I believe, are located on the oil filter housing.
