Mitsubishi Repair: 1990 Mitsubishi Mirage, mitsubishi mirage, cv axle

Question
My son has a 1990 Mitsubishi with 103,000 miles on it and we went to get it inspected and they told us that the CV axle needed to be replaced.  Is this car worth putting the money into it as the estimate was about $500. The car is leaking a little transmission fluid, but has been a good car.  Your thoughts?  Should we fix it?

Answer
Barb,
Every car as it gets older will require repair.  A properly maintained car can last well over 100,000 miles.  If spending $500 to repair the vehicle is less expensive and less trouble than buying another car, then I'd say have it fixed.  If you know the requires a lot more repairs and the leaks progressively get worse, then replacing the car may be the better option.
Good luck!
