Mitsubishi Repair: Mitsi Galant Viento 1994-automatic, hiccup, galant

Question
Just purchased the car yesterday - unfortunately at Auction so i cannot return it. The car seemed to be working fine when i test drove it, but after the auction I noticed on the way home the car idled loudly, shuddered while idling and revved high while doing 100 km (maybe not getting into top gear). While driving along the car also did the occassional hiccup thing, where the cut pretty much cut out but then kept going. After parking my car up for the night when getting back in it this morning it no longer will go forward or back but will only drive in low gear.

Answer
Nikki,
It sounds like your car may be in "limp mode".  When the car's computer(s) detects that something semi-serious is wrong, it enters the limp mode, which means that the engine won't rev beyond a pre-programmed speed, you can't accelerate very fast, or you may indeed be speed-restricted to 100 km or similar. The transmission may even stay in one or two gears.  The best option would be to bring the car to a mechanic and have them do a full inspection of it.  It may be as simple as a getting a regular tune-up, or potentially something more severe as a dumb transmission.  But only a mechanic would be able to determine that.
Good luck!
