Mitsubishi Repair: crank no start., mitsubishi montero, power transistor

Question
90 mitsubishi montero 3.0l
I pulled the coil wire off the cap to check for spark. I get 1 single spark during cranking, The spark is orange. I replaced the coil wire and still 1 spark. I put an ohm meter on the positve terminal of the coil and the negitive on the coil wire side. I get 14.65 ohms. The book says it should be 11.65-19.95. I think I test it correctly. Does the power transister next to the coil have anything to do with this? If so how do I test it. The books say nothing about this.

Answer
John,
The power transistor regulates the amount of power (current) that passes through the coil.  If the current is not enough, it may not be able to ignite the fuel mixture in the cylinder to start the car.  But there are many other things that can cause a no start situations.  There could be a lack of fuel, poor charging system, or bad ignition timing.  Check your manual how to test those other areas and it may help you pinpoint the problem.
Good luck!
