Mitsubishi Repair: 2003 mitsubitshi lancer, mitsubitshi lancer, match down

Question
the back right light bulbs keep blowing out. for a while there was a problem with the bulb dropping out rattling around inside. one shop used the wrong bulbs, they weren't two-pronged? another shop order a mitsubitshi bulb, but it blew out. then i went to auto zone and he told which bulb to buy and suggested I buy/use bulb grease because the blown bulb had gotten wet. he said it was because of the hot weather we've had here in TX. the bulb was installed w/a small amount of bulb grease on the tip of the bulb. it worked fine for a few days, and then blew out again. a lady told me maybe i have a shortage and need to be careful because the lights are connected to the fuel and i need to be careful because my car might blow up!

Answer
Erica,
You can rest assure that your car WILL NOT blow up.  There is no lighting circuitry connected to your fuel system.  Even if someone dropped a lit match down your fuel tank, the car would not blow up (I've seen someone try that once :) ).  A bulb that continually blows out is typically caused by a short circuit in the bulb receptacle.  It may be best to have a mechanic inspect and replace receptacle if necessary.
Good luck!
