Mitsubishi Repair: FLEX PIPE, stainless steel nuts, stainless steel nuts and bolts

Question
Dear Mr. Falcone
My car: 1992, Eagle 2000GTX , 2liter, SOHC, AUTO.
Q: The flex pipe on that car is leaking, is it possible only change the flex pipe (section) or have to replace the whole down pipe. (original one looks like in one pcs)
If it's possible to change the flex pipe only, does it mean have to cut or weld or there's is other alt.way.
(i.e by clamps, is the universal one only made for weld or have both type. Do they come with 2 size end; so one end fits over the existing cutted pipe & the other end fits inside the other end --Cat.convertor side.)
How to know exactly what I needed for my car, when I go through web site search, doesn't get me anywhere.
( any site recommendation or phone can suggest. Prefer in CANADA. If not available, pls give me US contact)
Thanks so much for your time. Looking forward to hearing form you
Best regards
Truly yours
Solomon Chow

Answer
Solomon,
I've never seen the flex section as being sold separately from the down pipe itself.  And in reality, it would be more reliable and easier to replace the entire down pipe anyway.  If you plan on replacing the downpipe yourself, be sure you also buy new gaskets for the manifold side and the cat converter side.  Since there's a good chance you may strip or break the bolts when removing them, either order new bolts or go to the hardware store and get comparable stainless steel nuts and bolts.  Penetrating oil will also help with bolt removal.  I like PB Blaster penetrating oil if you can find it at your local auto parts store.
Good luck!
