Mitsubishi Repair: 03 Mitsubishi Eclipse GTS, coolant levels, mechanic check

Question
My Eclipse blows cold air at idle  and at cruising speeds if the engine doesn't have to strain (ie: climbing a  hill)the temp gages ranges from trying to overheat to normal but radiator cap is not hot to touch. coolant levels are fine. Any ideas???

Answer
Randy,
The overheating and the cold air blowing at idle may all be related to the same problem.  You could have a bad water pump or stuck thermostat.  Replacing the thermostat is a relatively inexpensive and easy fix.  Have your mechanic check that and replace it if necessary.  If your problem persists after the thermostat is replaced, you should have your mechanic check your water pump and replace that if necessary.
Good luck!
