Mitsubishi Repair: I think its the alternator, 90 plymouth laser, blown fuse, battery cables

Question
The guy at auto zone suggested some purple power degreaser.  He said spray it on there, take it to a car wash and power spray it off.  So I did.  Dumb idea, now the car won't stay running.  There's a winding noise, the only way to get it running is with a jump from a car. When it starts the lights are dim, and starts to die.  You play with the gas, and nothing will keep it going.  Is it the alternator?  Or this one site said it might be a blown fuse in the "lamp circuit"? And something about

Answer
Nicole: Did the dumb guy at AutoZone tell you to cover the alternator and other things in the engine before you did that bath? Why did you feel a need to do such a bath on the engine? Please don't listen to those AutoZone guys again about washing your engine, yes that does sound like the alternator but first check the battery cables to make sure they are tight and clean. Oh wait you washed the engine. There is a test that most shops can do where they test the battery and alternator to make sure they putting out enough power. You will need to do a good tune up on the car too, for other things got wet, like replacing the distributor cap and rotor, also the stark plugs and wires. You might try sitting the car someplace with the hood open in the sun to let it dry some too. Though if you don't have a garage then keep an eye on the car, don't want someone to take your battery. Check the battery cables, they might be needing replacing too. Please the next time AutoZone guy tells you something check with me first? Though I will be off site for a while, I just got out of the hospital but still write me a (oppedal50@yahoo.com) before you listen to them again. Ok? Great. God bless: Linda
