Mitsubishi Repair: Eletrical, 2000 mitsubishi mirage, mitsubishi mirage

Question
2000 Mitsubishi Mirage DE Standard.  License plate lights are not working.  Swapped out bulbs with those on the side bumper.  Bulbs work there but not on license plate.  Where should I look next to trouble shoot.

Answer
Noe,
It's possible you have a blown fuse.  Check the fuses under your hood (near your battery) and the fuses under your dashboard.  The license plate lights are controlled by your parking lights.  When your parking lights are on, your license plate lights come on as well.  Check the wiring and connections where the bulbs attach.  This may require you removing some panels from inside your trunk.  It's possible that the wires have fraid and are now shorting out.  Clean all connections.  Get some good copper cleaner and clean off the contacts for the bulbs.  If you have a voltmeter (purchasable at any hardware, auto, electronics stores), you can test your wires to check to see if your getting a solid 12 volts to your wires that lead to your license plates bulbs when your other lights are on.
Good luck!
