Mitsubishi Repair: 2007 eclipse tranny, tow driver, auto mechanic

Question
Had flat on front passenger side. Pulled onto side of road.
Car bottomed out due to elevation of road shoulder.
Had wrecker pull car back and tow it . The auto mechanic said he put car in forward and reverse and it would not go..Heard like a grinding noise. So he sent it to tranny shop. Of course they had it two days now....Tranny guy said sounds like axle popped out... Does this sound feasible??  Said he would know better when he had a lift open to pick car up>>>>

Answer
Steve: Did the person that towed the car back to the shop tow it right? Which tire on the car went flat? A rear one or a front one. If a rear one went down did they tow the car by picking up the rear end and running the car on its front wheels? If so that would have damaged the transmission. If the car won't go into gear, sounds more like a transmission problem to me than the axle popping. I guess it could happen but other than a crash I can't say I have heard that happen before. Again though if that happen I would say it was more to how the car was towed back to the shop then your flat tire. Being the car bottom out due to the road again, I wonder if the tow driver watched that when he towed the car up too. Please keep me posted on what this transmission guys comes back with as to the problem and the cost. God bless: Linda
