Mitsubishi Repair: From high idle to no start, turbo auto, speed controller

Question
1998 eclipse 2.0 non turbo auto. Was idling at approx 2800 rpm then idled to norm and died. Will crank and fire but no start. The idle has been an issue for several weeks, replaced o2 sensor, no other codes in comp. When the idle was high or surging it also hard shifted. How can i get the car to start?

Answer
Amanda,
Check your fuel pump and air intake.  If your fuel supply is weak or you have a problem with sufficient air getting to the engine, you will experience the problem you're having.  It may also explain the idling problem you were having prior to the car dying completely.  The throttle body, EGR valve, PCV valve and the idle speed controller should all be inspected along with the fuel pump.  If need be, have the car towed to a mechanic to diagnosis it.
Good luck!
