Mitsubishi Repair: Mitsubishi Carisma 1.8GDI 1999model, comptuer, car computer

Question
Hi Linda, I had my Carisma checked on the computer and no fault codes were found. As I mentioned last week it only revs up to 4000 rpm and dies down. Throttle bodyhas been changed, but no joy. how can I check if its the car computer and how can i change it if it is faulty.

Answer
Leonard: I can only take what you write me and then make guesses as to what might be wrong. Sometimes I am wrong with my ideas. First thing I want you to do is get a repair manual for your car, most parts stores have them and they cost around $20.00. As it would walk you through things to check, each car is a bit different on things to check there. I would be checking for a vaccum leak, still I can not understand why the computer did not pick up on a problem with the car. When the comptuer controls that car, how it runs. The repair manual would explain where the computer is on your car, most cars the computer is way back in the glove box but again some cars are different, you would have to get the computer tested and then see at a parts store what a new computer would cost to get another one. But if you are going to do work on your car youself, you need to be getting one of those repair manual. Have you checked on the net for recalls on your car, sometimes those recalls with explain problems. Have you tested the fuel pump to make sure it is putting out enough pressure for the engine? It is an easy test and not to costly to do. But the repair manual would explain the right pressure for that and how to do it to your car. Some more ideas to try. God bless: Linda
