Mitsubishi Repair: 2001 Mirage Stalling, mitsubishi mirage, 2001 mitsubishi mirage

Question
Hi, there.  I'm hoping you can help me.  I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage - 1.8L engine.  My car recently started stalling when slowing down or stopping completely.  I notice that it stalls more frequently once the car has warmed up for 15-20 minutes.  If I put it in neutral and keep my foot lightly on the accelerator, it will not stall.  I had my friend check it with his hand-held and it said something about random spark misfire and idle being too low.  So, he replaced the spark plugs and wires, increased the idle slightly, replaced the air, fuel, and oil filters, cleaned out the carb and did an oil change.  This seemed to fix the problem for almost a week when it suddenly started stalling again.  :-\  I also noticed that the exhaust smells a little worse than usual.

Any ideas?  Please help!!  Thanks so much in advance,
Tammi

Answer
Tammi: Get the fuel pump checked, your friend should be able to check how much pressure the pump is putting out. My guess is the fuel pump is going out. Do you keep your tank of your car 1/4 full all the time or run it down to empty? Did you know the fuel is what keeps the fuel pump cool so if you run your car down to that "E" mark or close to it with time you will cook that pump. Another thing to check is for a vaccum leak. God bless: Linda
