Mitsubishi Repair: Mitsubishi will not idle, mitsubishi eclipse, mitsubishi cars

Question
I have a 2000 Mitsubishi eclipse. When I came to a stop sign or intersections it died-3 times to be exact on the way to work Monday morning! I could turn it off and it would restart just fine. I took it to a mechanic and he cleaned the throttle body (what ever that is) and the car ran fine on my way back to work. After work, the car would start, but would not stay on unless I pressed on the gas. The mechanic-bless his heart-came to pick me up and drove my car back to the shop to look at a few more things. He eventually got it to stay on long enough for me to make it home safely, but the car did the same thing the next morning. It would start, but not stay on unless I gave it gas. Do you have any suggestions for the cause? Can any mechanic service this car, or should I take it to the dealership repair shop? Thanks!

Answer
Melanie: I think you should take the car a dealership shop, it sounds like to me that the mechanic is not up and up on Mitsubishi cars. They are different kind of cars to work on. I think I would be looking at the fuel pump to make sure it putting out enough fuel to run the car. Alot of people now days with the higher cost of fuel there last summer ran their cars down to empty, when the fuel is what keeps the fuel pump cool. So I have seen alot of fuel pumps cooked due to this. I mean when you buy a car, the saleman does not explain this fact to you. So who knew. So I am thinking there is a problem with your fuel pump. It is an easy test to make sure the fuel pump is putting out enough fuel pressure. Though the mechanic is a good guy, you need your car for work so I would take it to the dealership repair shop. They would know best. Be sure to explain to them what the car is doing and they should be able to fix it for you. God bless: Linda
