Mitsubishi Repair: 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS, mitsubishi eclipse, haynes manual

Question
HI, I recently bought a 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS(Manual) When I got the car it sat in my drive way after a hour test drive. I then went to move inside of my garage. I backed up went forward and stalled out on a incline. When I tried to start it back up. NOTHING. So I called the guy I bought the car from and he said to wiggle the positive battery cable, it worked. However once I got in the garage, I tried to start her up and again nothing. Finally I went to Auto Zone and they sold me the cables. I replaced the cables, now theres no power at all. I even got the Haynes Manual, but I cant figure it out. Can you help me out. One more thing. I took the battery in for testing Auto Zone recharged it due to low charge. Ok now what do I do. Also the Air Intake, I went to replace that and took the Black plastic hose off and it started dripping oil or what looked to be oil. Any idea what that is, and if its bad how do i fix that.

Jarrett: Please don't take this wrong but I hope you did not pay a lot of money for this car. Also how many miles is on it? As for the battery I would replace it, I think there is a bad cell in the battery. One reason why the car won't start. Does it even try to turn over or is there just nothing? Can you hear the starter? How about the fuel pump? Anything? If nothing then either the cables are not tight on the battery. These little cars like those cables tight, I mean when you can pick the battery up by the cable. Tight! Are you sure you put the red cable on the pos side of the battery and the black neg cable on the neg side of the battery? Still I would replace that battery, then also there is a relay for the power to that battery, the relay could have been weak and when you replaced the cables you blew that relay. When standing with the hood open there is three black boxes in the engine department, one on the driver's side of the car and the others over by the battery. Check those to see if a relay might be bad, or one of the larger fuses in those boxes is bad. But if you find a bad relay or fuse; take the neg cable off the battery, replace the relay and then replace the neg cable. Another thing you could do is get a meter and code the computer to see if it might code you with a problem. Does the car use oil? Have you checked the oil to see if it is down? I guess I would go ahead and replace the air intake, are you talking about the air filter? I guess I don't understand the air intake thing. Sorry. But do check the air filter and replace that. Whenever I buy a different car, I always change the oil, replace the air filter, well do a tune up on the car; no matter what the person I bought it from told me. I just like to make sure everything is in good running order before I head out on the road with the car. Keep me posted on this though. God bless: Linda
